本日は、皆様には、ご多用中のところ、御参加賜りまして、誠に有難うございます。私はこの献花式の主催団体である 「『トルコからの翼』40周年顕彰 有志の会」会長の宮島昭夫と申します。私は2017年から2020年まで3年余、駐トルコ日本国大使を務めておりました。トルコは私のハートの中の特別な場所を占めています。トルコを離れても、トルコの皆さんとの数え切れない素晴らしい出会い、日本に対する温かい友愛の情を忘れたことはありません。このトルコとのご縁が本日の献花式に至ったことを、誠に嬉しく存じます。

Thank you very much for attending despite of your busy schedule. I am Akio Miyajima, chairman of the organizing committee of Flower Offering today.
I was Japanese Ambassador to Turky for some three years from 2017 to 2020. Turky still occupies a special part of my heart. Even after leaving Turky, I never forget many a many wonderful encounters and relationships with Turkish people and their warm friendships to Japan. I am really happy that such lead to this flower offering today.

イラン･イラク戦争中の1985年3月､イラクのサダム･フセインが、「48時間後以降、イランを飛行する民間機も攻撃する」と突然、宣言しました。
しかし、タイムリミットまでに日本から救援機を送ることは不可能でした。取り残され、絶望的な状況のなかで、ホテルに身をよせていた日本人に、「トルコ航空が助けにきてくれる。」との、信じられないような情報が飛び込んできました。

In March 1985 during the Iran-Iraq War, Ṣaddām Ḥusein of Iraq abruptly declared that 48 hours later Iraq would start to attack all the airplanes, military or civil, indiscriminately.
However, it was impossible to send a rescue plane from Japan to Tehran. several hundred Japanese citizens hopelessly left in hotels received an unbelievable news that TURKISH AIRLINES WILL COME TO SAVE THEM !

空襲警報が鳴り止まないテヘランの空港に、2機のトルコ航空機が飛来し、日本人216人を乗せて、3月19日午後6時、トルコに向け、離陸しました。やがてトルコ領に入り、恐怖と重い緊張で静まり返っていた機内に、機長の「トルコにようこそ！」というアナウンスが流れると、歓喜の叫びが沸き起こりました。

To the Tehran airport where air raid warning continued to sound, two airplanes of Turkish Airlines landed and left with 216 Japanese at six o’clock March 19th. Later on entering Turky, the announcement to the Japanese passengers “WELCOME TO TURKY!” lead them form the heavy tension to their cry of joy.

その機長こそ、本日、この献花式を行う記念園の名称に冠された、オルハン・スヨルジュさんでありました。
機長、乗務員などトルコ航空の皆様は、プロフェッショナルであり、かつ人道的で英雄的でした。

This announcement was made by Captain Mr. Orhan Suyolcu, after whom this this memorial park was named. Not only the captain but also all the crew members were professional, humanitarian and heroic.

40年前の救出劇は、大変厳しい国際情勢の中で日本人を助けるために救援機を派遣するというオザール首相の大英断の賜物でしたが、その背後には、日本と日本人を特別に大切に考えてくださるトルコ国民がいらっしゃったことを､私たちは､良く知っています｡

This TUKISH RESCUE 40 yeas ago was by the bold decision of Prime Minister Ozal in a very difficult international situation and we really understand thar behind his decision were TURKISH CITIZENS who kindly thought much of Japan and Japanese people.

ですから、オルハン・スヨルジュ機長の記念碑に捧げる私たちの感謝と顕彰は、トルコの全国民の皆様に向けられたものであります。

Therefore, our appreciation with gratitude and commemoration we offer today to the Captains monument is at the same time to all the citizens of Turky.

一昨日､40年前にトルコ航空機に救出された日本人のお二人からお話を聞きました。今でも本当に感謝している、ご恩は一生忘れないと言われていました。

Two days ago I met 2 of Japanese who were rescued by Turkish Airlines. They said to me that they were grateful from the bottom of their heart and would never forget it.

トルコには「一杯のコーヒーにも 40 年の思い出」という諺があり、トルコ語では40は特別な意味のある数字だと御聞きしています。本日は、1985年の「トルコ航空機によるテヘラン在住日本人救出」から40周年であります。

I heard there is an old saying in Turky that even a cup of coffee will have 40 yeas memory and 40 is a kind of special number in Turky. Today is the 40th anniversary of the TURKISH RESCUE in 1985.

この日に、トルコへの感謝の念を新たにし、その御恩についての「知る努力、知らせる努力」を通じて、これを次の世代に語り継ぎ、日本とトルコの両国の友情とパートナーシップが、ますます実り豊かに発展することを願わずにはいられません。

I really hope that we once again think our feeling of gratitude and pass it down from generation to generation through our effort to know and pass on for the even more fruitful friendship and partnership.

勝亦駐トルコ大使からも、「今回の献花式につき、関係者の皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。昨年は、外交関係 100周年で、様々な記念行事を開催出来ました。今年は、日本とトルコの友情の礎である 1890年のエルトゥールル号遭難から 135周年になります。両国のこのような歴史的な絆を引き続き大事にして参りたいと思います」とのメッセージをいただいております。

I have received a message from Japanese Ambassador Katusmata in Turky the following message;
I thank people engaged in this flower offering. Last year was 100 yeas anniversary and many events were held. This year is 135 anniversary of Ertuğrul incident. I will continue to think such historical ties between both countries very important.

イスタンブールの姉妹都市であり、日本で唯一、本件記念施設を有する下関市には、感謝と尊敬の念に堪えません。

I thank and respect City of Shimonoseki with only commemorating monumental facilities.

情けはひとのためならず。困った時の友は真の友。

“Dost kara günde belli olur.”
In Japan are sayings that;
Kindness is not for the benefit of others.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.

日本とトルコは距離が離れていても、心は近いと感じます。

”Türkiye ile Japonya coğrafi olarak birbirinden uzaktı, fakat kalplerimiz yakındır.”
In my view, Japan and Turky are distant, but our hearts are close to each other.

日本とトルコは「Two nations, One heart」です｡

“Türkiye ve Japonya,iki devlet tek yürektir.”
Japan and Turky are “Two nations, One heart”
